The Platinum Brush and Platinum Pencil

Each year, five artists who create realistic paintings are awarded a Platinum Brush and five artists who draw only realistic are awarded a Platinum Pencil.

What is a Platinum Brush and what is a Platinum Pencil?
A Platinum Brush is an award given to artists who paint realistically. A Platinum Pencil is an award given to artists who draw only realistically.
The awards not only recognize the artistic excellence of the artists to whom the awards are given, but also reflect the appreciation in wide expert circles for the work of the artists to whom the awards are given.

Who can be distinguished with a Platinum Brush?
Platinum Brushes are awarded by Masters of Realism to Dutch artists who paint realistically, are not Masters of Realism and yet also paint at a high level.

Who can be awarded a Platinum Pencil?

Platinum Pencils are awarded by Masters of Realism to Dutch artists who draw only realistically.

Setup
Platinum Brushes and Platinum Pencils are awarded once a year.
The path to awarding Platinum Brushes and Platinum Pencils has two rounds.
a. In the first round, each Master of Realism is invited to nominate one or two artists for award of a Platinum Brush and to nominate one or two artists for award of a Platinum Pencil.
b. In the second round, all artists nominated by category will be submitted to the Masters of Realism in alphabetical order.

Each Master can award points to two artists (no more and no less) per category. The highest rated artist per category will receive 2 points, the other artist 1 point.
The five artists who accumulate the most points in each category will be awarded a Platinum Brush and Platinum Pencil, respectively.

The artist awarded the most points in the realistic painting category will be invited to join the 250 Masters of Realism.



Track


First Round: Masters of Realism who wish to do so will nominate their favorite artists. A maximum of 2 for award of a Platinum Brush and a maximum of 2 for award of a Platinum Pencil. Period March/April through July 31.
Second Round: Masters of Realism Award points to two artists (no more and no less) per category. The highest rated artist in each category will receive 2 points, the other artist 1 point. Every Masters of Realism participating in judging,thus selects 4 artists: 2 for a Platinum Brush and 2 for award of a Platinum Pencil. Points will be awarded to the nominated artists. (See under “Setup.) Period15 August to 15 October.

Announcement
The 5 artists receiving the most points in each category will be awarded Platinum Brushes and Platinum Pencils. They will be announced in November. For the first time in 2024. The process leading to award of Platinum Brushes and Platinum Pencils starts in March/April and ends in November.

Artists awarded a Platinum Brush or a Platinum Pencil are honorably listed on the Masters of Realism website.
